Area Prayer Meeting
Prayer fellowship has always been an integral part of the Orthodox Syrian Community. In Singapore, we have also tried to continue the traditions that our forefathers started.
Prayer fellowships foster a sense of community among members of our church and help us grow stronger together in Christ. Each fellowship begins with a prayer led by our priest, followed by Bible readings, and related discussions. We sing hymns and pray together, enabling us to connect with one another and with God.
These prayer meetings were first started around 2007. This was not one of the formal organisations in the church then. There were 4 prayer groups initially: North East, East Coast, Jurong, and Woodlands. In 2021, there was a proposal that every church member should be a part of at least one prayer group. Based on the spread of members across Singapore, 3 more prayer groups were added: Church Area, Central and Choa Chu Kang.
Today, each member is part of at least one prayer group and each prayer group has a coordinator. The prayer coordinator liaises with the vicar and area prayer group members to plan the prayer meeting roster. The coordinator also arranges and organises various events throughout the year, such as carnivals and our yearly harvest festival.
